Chevrolet Silverado reveal kicks off 2018 Detroit auto show

The 2019 Silverado not only doubles down on steel with a roll-formed (not stamped) high-strength bed, it boasts the biggest box in the segment - increasing width by seven inches and length by one inch over the current truck. The tailgate can be lowered with the key fob or a button inside the truck. GM's faith in steel hasn't put much of a dent in F-150 sales, which are a couple of hundred thousand units higher than the Silverado's, but it's clearly sticking with it. Narrower headlights and door-mounted mirrors also immediately distinguish the 2019 pickup from its predecessor. The automaker hopes to gain ground on the Ford F-Series, in which saw 820,799 trucks sold in 2016. The 3.0-liter V-6 diesel is an immediate answer to Ford's announcement earlier this week that it will offer a diesel in its light-duty pickup for the first time.

A mix of materials are used to optimize weight and capability.

At the preview of the Silverado on Saturday, GM's product development chief Mark Reuss took yet another shot at the competition, saying "I don't think you can get much work done with an aluminum hammer".

The 2019 Silverado made its official debut at the Detroit auto show after an early introduction at an event celebrating Chevy Truck's 100th anniversary in November 2017 in Texas.

The US sees the YPG as the most effective fighting force against IS and previous year provided it with arms ahead of major battles in Syria.

Here are the important changes to the 2019 Silverado. "Our V-8 is an iconic engine for us, and we have made it even better".

There's more: the bed is wider by almost seven inches with more tie downs and in-bed storage. The latter is a tough-looking brute with blacked-out grille, two-inch suspension lift and Z71 off-road package including locking rear differential, skid plates and all-terrain tires.

Rear seat passengers get more than 43 inches of leg room, and the top level trucks like the High Country are more luxurious inside. In addition to the available power liftgate, the Silverado offers 4G WiFi and smartphone app compatibility.

All engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission that General Motors developed in tandem with Ford. Engines include a turbocharged 3.0-liter Duramax diesel six-cylinder and revised versions of the familiar 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8. Chevrolet will start production of the 2019 Silverado at the Fort Wayne, Indiana Assembly plant later this year, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin this fall.
