Google Assistant Prove to be Better than Amazon

Google said on Monday its voice-controlled virtual assistant will show up this year in new tablet-like devices designed by LG Electronics Inc and Sony Corp as the technology company seeks to challenge Amazon's dominance in a fledgling market. Credit: Tom's GuideAnother sign that Google is gaining momentum is that devices that had previously been Alexa-only, such as the Sonos One smart speakers, are now incorporating Google Assistant, too.

On the show floor, it smoothly scrolled through demo applications popping up info in ways we're used to seeing on our phones or through Android Auto. The Smart Display will act like Amazon's Echo Show where you would get Google Assistant and not the Amazon's Alexa assistant.

Lenovo was one of the first to manufacture these smart displays, and they come in 8-inch and 10-inch models.

Amazon's push into the home with Alexa is an aggressive move to secure domestic endpoints, which it desperately needs in order to catch up with Apple and Google's presence on iOS and Android devices. After Google did not grant permission for Amazon's Echo Show to present YouTube content, Google thought it would be a good idea to make their assistant able to have YouTube content. However still 43% of consumers disagree with the decision by many manufacturers to remove the headphone socket from their devices.

This year's CES is coming to an end.

Personally, I think these "smart displays" are the future of Google Assistant, and for me I don't think it's going to be worth buying anything else going forward.

It's an exciting new development - your smart home system could soon stop living in a clunky trash-can shaped speaker, and become integrated into the home itself. The company reportedly aims to make a profit on this device and would likely not have indulged in the market share contest with Amazon and Google over the holiday period.

"We'll have to see how that works out", Google's Scott Huffman, a Google VP, said.

We checked out LG's latest "wallpaper" TV that is super thin and so light it magnetically mounts to your wall. Video calling, Google Photos, and Google Maps are all supported.

The company has experimented with developing a version of Google Home with a screen, Rishi Chandra, vice president of the division, told Reuters in August. While all of this is already possible on Google smartphones, these displays are meant to be stationery items that can be placed on tables and shelves and other counter-tops.
