Google Duo Spotted Working on Android Smartphones Without the App Installed

However, on iOS and platforms, the app will be required for making calls on Duo.

Reports, however, say this ability to make Duo calls to even those who aren't using the app is now restricted to Android users.

The new update of the Duo that makes its video calling different from other apps promotes hassle-free connectivity between people, as goes its tagline - "Your closest friend, closer". Duo will now send video chats to those with Android phones who have yet to download the app on to their handset. As such, at the conclusion of a call between a Duo user and a non-Duo user, the latter will see a prompt imploring them to install the app, if they are interested in starting video calls of their own. For now, it is not clear whether there are any requirements attached to this functionality, but having your contact number registered with Google account could be one of those requisites or maybe the only one.

This is all operating through a feature of Google Play services called App Preview Messaging, which launched alongside Allo back in 2016. It enables an app to operate as a part of Android, even if it is not directly installed by the user.

These regulations grant the Chinese Communist Party increased power over religion, paving the way for escalated persecution. ChinaAid said authorities also demolished a Catholic church in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province, on 27 December.

Another comment on the thread noted that Google Duo compatibility is now part of the stock Android Dialer and allows calls to non-Duo users.

At this point, some of our readers must be thinking about the privacy aspect of this new feature.

As soon as the call is made, the recipient will immediately be able to see what is being shown through the caller's camera. There is also a notification icon that is persistent and it can bring the call into view even on navigating away from the call. It works nearly exactly like a normal Duo call, including the Knock-Knock feature. The option to install Duo pops up after the call has ended, and so does the option to block the caller from calling ever again.

Hangouts may or may not be discontinued which we don't know at the moment.
