Mourinho appears to confirm Manchester United interest in signing Sanchez

Arsene Wenger has since noted that nothing has been decided regarding Sanchez but Gianluca di Marzio claimed on Friday that United were leading the race to secure his signature after Pep Guardiola refused to improve his offer of £20m.

Sanchez nearly signed for City in August only for a deal to collapse at the last moment with Arsenal unable to persuade Thomas Lemar to join from Monaco.

The Bordeaux midfielder is wanted by a host of clubs including the North London duo and Manchester United.

French side Paris St-Germain have also been linked with Chile forward but Sanchez's preference is to join Manchester City.

So whilst Manchester City remain favourites, Manchester United can not be discounted from pulling off a transfer coup not seen since... they stole Romelu Lukaku from under the noses of Chelsea last summer. The only word I can say is the same word that everybody says; he's a phenomenal player.

"We all know what he did at Arsenal, Barcelona and before that Udinese".

"I don't know but probably this weekend he is going to defend Arsenal colours, so I don't think it's correct to say things about Alexis Sanchez".

In the last two years at Grand Slams, whenever Serena Williams has been absent, an unknown has thrown their hats in the ring. But it could be former No.1, Angelique Kerber rising again as she has been the most outstanding player in the New Year.

If Sanchez ends up staying at Arsenal this month, which is very possible, City will fancy their chances of landing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.

"I maintain what I've said many times".

Sanchez was believed to be on his way to Manchester City either in the winter or the summer transfer window, with the club agreeing terms on a contract with the player's representatives. We don't believe in signing a player just to do something. We are talking about a top player and you can buy him for a price not so high. "Normally he would stay at the club until the end of the season but we'll see", said Wenger.

"If there is a fantastic opportunity on the table, you fight for that fantastic opportunity", he said. If United miss out out on Sanchez, they will still be in the market for a forward, and have reportedly targeted two other Premier League strikers.

"I have a good relationship with Theo and I don't want him to be frustrated or lose an opportunity to go to the World Cup". I'm focused on Liverpool, believe me.

"He's a very good player".
