Raiders plan to hire Tom Cable as offensive line coach

"We are deeply concerned by reports that the Oakland Raiders' owner, Mark Davis, came to an agreement with Jon Gruden about him becoming the Raiders' next head coach before interviewing any candidates of color". The Cardinals defeated the Raiders 24-23. Cable then led the Raiders in 2009 and 2010, and finished with a 17-27 record before former owner Al Davis elected not to renew Cable's contract.

The 53-year-old Cable worked as the Raiders offensive line coach in 2007 before becoming the team's interim head coach four games into the 2008 season after Lane Kiffin was sacked.

He went to Seattle after that, and spent seven seasons as Seahawks assistant head coach in charge of the offensive line.

Among the media in attendance, Steve Wyche and James Palmer from NFL Network weighed in on the event.

In August of 2009, Cable reportedly was involved in a physical alteraction with defensive assistant Randy Hanson that resulted in Hanson suffering a broken jaw. It's also clear that the Raiders got their man in Cable.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who was also jeered, hit the crossbar from a free kick in the first half after the ball deflected off the wall. Ronaldo almost scored from close range just before halftime, but his shot was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.

Cable served as the Raiders' head coach from 2008 through 2010, but his stint was hardly a success. Davis docked $120,000 of pay from Cable's over the final six games of his tenure amid legal fees. Though Cable uses a zone-blocking scheme that fell out of favor with fans and analysts given the powerful construction of Oakland's offensive line, Cable has been around the league long enough to adapt his schemes to match personnel.

This offseason, the Raiders have a decision to make with Marshawn Lynch. They were in Seattle together from 2011 to 2015.

The Rooney Rule requires National Football League teams to interview a minority candidate for the head coaching job.

That is the official timeline for the Raiders head coaching search. He held the position from the 1998 to 2001 seasons before being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two first-round draft picks, two second-round draft picks and $8 million in cash.
