Scribblenauts Showdown looking more and more likely

Scribblenauts Showdown looking more and more likely

Following an earlier ratings leak, Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment announced today that Scribblenauts is returning with a new entry.

While the series was once fairly popular on the DS, recent years haven't been kind to Scribblenauts. Scribblenauts Showdown brings the series to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch and we already have a release date: March 6, 2018. Or something. Showdown is also the first time that the series has been available on the PS4 and Xbox One, which is great for anyone who was interested in the series but owned the wrong console. We haven't seen a Scribblenauts game since the DC-universe version in 2013, but Scribblenauts Showdown keeps popping up from ratings board listings.

Anyway, Scribblenauts Showdown appears to be a multiplayer spin on the formula, going by the ESRB's description. And then Sandbox mode will allow one or two players to solve objectives in eight new levels, where they must summon any object to earn Starites, uncover those that are hidden, and unlock achievements. Mini-games include fishing, racing, and using drones to deliver items. Some games/tasks prompt players to use "cartoony" weapons (e.g., bazookas, bombs, swords) to deplete the health meters of other characters. Here, two players will go head-to-head across 25 different mini-games that will be randomly selected.

Aerospace supplier GKN faces takeover bid
In its own statement on Friday, GKN had confirmed its intention to separate its aerospace and automotive divisions. The firm has 160 manufacturing locations, including East Cowes, and employs 58,000 people across its sites.

It's not often we encounter a game that makes us think, "We've never played anything quite like this before", but that was exactly our reaction to the original Scribblenauts, a puzzle game where writing a word - seemingly any word - will cause that object to spawn in the game.

Scribblenauts would certainly be a welcome addition to the PS4 library.

For now, we'll just have to wait for that release date and reveal.
