U.S. marshal killed, 3 other officers injured in PA shooting

The incident is near where police shot and killed an Egyptian immigrant on December 22 after he wounded a state trooper and shot at another officer near the Capitol.

A deputy US marshal was killed and two police officers were injured Thursday morning when authorities said they were shot while serving a search warrant, according to multiple reports. He did not specify if the U.S. Marshal was included in the count. While on a task force, these officers can exercise U.S. Marshals authorities, such as crossing jurisdictional lines.

"Harrisburg mourns the loss this morning of a U.S. Marshal who died protecting our residents".

Police released very few details about the incident and said they were planning to release more information later Thursday during a news conference.

"This was part of US Marshals taskforce warrant service. It was a large-scale investigation [with] multiple agencies involved", Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo told reporters on Thursday. He said there is now no danger to the public.

Snow and freezing temperatures are expected to make for risky driving conditions Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon. The second death occurred in New Orleans, Mayor Mitch Landrieu said. "It's more snow than we thought we were going to get".

Task force officers are state and local police officers who receive special deputations with the Marshals.

Neighbors reported hearing dozens of shots fired on Thursday morning, according to WHTM. Law enforcement officers shot and killed Ahmed Aminamin El-Mofty, who they said fired at police in several locations in Harrisburg three days before Christmas.

The shooting occurred about 6:30 a.m.in a residential area that was still locked down by police and clogged with law enforcement vehicles three hours later.

Chardo would not confirm the severity of the injuries to police officers.

Harrisburg is the capital city of Pennsylvania.
