Dhoni speaks out, but will CSK bring back Ashwin?

Chennai Super Kings icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni has revealed that there were many interested parties in the lead-up to the 2018 IPL Retention.

Although CSK didn't have to think twice before retaining their skipper MS Dhoni.

The former India captain said he never thought of playing for any other franchise.

MS Dhoni has confirmed Chennai Super Kings will look to acquire local hero R Ashwin's services at the IPL auction, but cautioned against letting emotions override auction strategy. He captained the side for their first edition but in the previous season, he was sacked by the team management and Australia captain Smith handled the responsibility.

"The last two years that we have not played, our fan following got stronger and stronger because none of the players were involved with anything", Dhoni was quoted as saying by The Statesman. "This is a special place and the thought of being with any other franchise was never a question".

"A lot of people approached me, I can tell you that. I can't think of not coming back to CSK". Chennai is my second home. He said that CSK fans have adopted him and they have treated him like their own. "We have two new players - Muthoot Finance and Equitas - joining us", said George John, whole-time director, CSK.

He did, and it paid off for the Eagles . "The guys are going to prepare themselves the way they have all season long". But they will be underdogs again when they play host to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game.

Speaking to the media in Chennai, Dhoni also spoke of the upcoming IPL auctions. The event in Mumbai earlier this month eventually saw him being retained by the Chennai franchise, whom he led to trophies in 2010 and 2011. The franchise will have to buy Ashwin in the auction and the off-spinner is bound to attract a few bidders.

"As a captain, it was slightly easy for me with the management".

"But we have to know when and where to use them", Dhoni said.

"At an auction, we also have to look at how much money we can afford to go for each individual as we look to make a strong team", he added.

While Dhoni conceded that the two-year ban marked a sad chapter in the franchise's history, he made it clear that the Super Kings' fan base has become stronger than ever since the team will return in this year's IPL. "We have Bravo, Faf du plessis, Brendon McCullum". With Super Kings having already retained three capped India players in Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja apart from Dhoni, they can't use the Right-to-Match Card to retain Ashwin. There is a lot of excitement among fans about the fact that CSK is back. Dhoni was bought Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) after CSK and Rajasthan Royals (RR) were suspended for two years due to corruption.
