Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho: 'Plenty of time to sign new contract'

United have been linked with Juventus left-back Alex Sandro this season, as well as unsettled Spurs star Danny Rose and Fulham prodigy Ryan Sessegnon.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says that there is "plenty of time" to sign a new contract at Old Trafford, despite reports suggesting an imminent announcement.

Having fallen out of favour with the United boss previous year, Shaw looked destined to leave Old Trafford in January, with a number of Premier League clubs said to be interested in landing his signature.

"Luke [has done] very well, played very well".

Shaw, 22, was criticised last season by Mourinho, who said the defender was "a long way behind" his teammates but he has now started United's last five games, his best run in the team since August 2016. "He was already improving and playing well when I start playing him after that long spell without minutes", Mourinho continued.

Deadly storm claims 8 lives in Germany
Air traffic in Germany was also back to normal after several airports suspended services over safety concerns on Thursday. The populous, western state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the northern state of Lower Saxony were among the hardest hit.

'Physically much better, mentally much stronger, tactically understanding the game much better and what we need in different phases and circumstances.

Ashley Young is available to face Burnley at Turf Moor after completing a three-match suspension for elbowing Southampton's Dusan Tadic but Shaw is likely to keep his place.

It wouldn't be an understatement to say that Mourinho has been the youngster's biggest critic but he has certainly been won over by his performances, and Shaw was full of praise for his coach for giving him "extra confidence" throughout the festive period which he says was the "best thing" for him to regain full fitness.

Ahead of the weekend's action, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly remain sidelined for United, while Daley Blind will also miss the fixture with a "small problem". "I know that the club is happy and the owners, the board are happy".
