Thus, weather warning has been issued for many parts of United Kingdom, particularly over Northern Ireland, Scotland and Northern England.

Met Eireann has warned of snow and ice for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath and Meath, starting from early tomorrow morning, Tuesday 6am, and following through until Wednesday at least.

Meteorologist Alex Burkill said: "There have been plenty of heavy snow showers, particularly across Scotland. Strong winds bring the potential for temporary blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow, mainly over high ground".

As a result, a yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office to northern and and western parts of England, as the bad weather is predicted to make its way down the country.

Met Office spokesperson Alex Deakin said: "Snow showers keep coming throughout the day across western Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and Wales - a mixture of rain, sleet and snow showers likely here".

Heavy persistent snow will spead out over parts of northern England into evening and overnight.

The public is being urged to take extra care on roads and pavements.

Meanwhile local forecasters Isle of Wight Met Service say that hail, sleet and perhaps even a little bit of snow will fall predominantly to the South and East sides of the Island.

Overnight the Maritime and Coastguard Agency assisted the Southern Health Trust in using 4x4s to transport nurses to vulnerable people who were snow-bound in the Warrenpoint and Newry area. Obviously, lightning has the potential to disrupt power supplies. The largest accumulations of snow will be over high ground, with more than 10cm building up above 200 metres.

The snow and ice warning is in place from 18.00 on Monday to 23.59 on Tuesday.

"There are going to be some blustery snow showers moving in from the west and bringing snow across Scotland at first".
