4 foreigners kidnapped in Kaduna regain freedom, 2 kidnappers arrested

"They have been rescued thanks to the efforts of the police", Kaduna state police spokesman Muktar Aliyu said.

Two Americans and two Canadians who were kidnapped in Nigeria's north-central Kaduna state on Tuesday have been freed and are in good condition, police said Saturday.

"The two police escorts attached to them engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, which resulted in the unfortunate death of the two police officers", Aliyu said. Aliya said they are in good condition.

Kidnapping, usually for ransom, is common in parts of Nigeria, though abductors usually target other Nigerians.

And in another abduction against foreigners, in October, four Britons including a man and his wife working for a Christian charity were kidnapped in the southeastern Delta State. Aliyu said no ransom was paid.

They're trying to strike a deal to protect the DREAMers while at the same time trying to find common ground with Republicans. Trump rejected the deal , declaring it "outlandish" and a "setback" in a series of tweets on Friday morning.

They were abducted while travelling in two vehicles from the town of Kafanchan in Kaduna state to Abuja.

Kidnapping has always been a problem in Nigeria's southern states, where high-profile individuals, including the families of prominent politicians, are regularly seized.

He declined to provide further details but said the police commissioner would address journalists later on the release.

The Abuja-Kaduna road has always been a haunt for kidnappers. One was killed while three others were released after negotiations.

Two German archaeologists were abducted in the region in February a year ago.
