Clarkson's 33 points carry Lakers past Pacers

Jordan Clarkson had 29 points and 10 assists, Julius Randle added 27 points and 12 rebounds, and the Lakers beat NY 127-107 on Sunday for their sixth win in eight games.

LOS ANGELES - The Lakers may have found a new point guard to get them by while Lonzo Ball recovers from a swollen left knee.

Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Michael Beasley each scored 17 for the Knicks. Myles Turner sat out his sixth straight game with a right elbow injury and is now considered week-to-week.

The Lakers opened up the game in the fourth as they got to the basket at will. Randle had back-to-back dunks during a Lakers' run that put the Knicks in a 17-point hole. He also took 11 rebounds and blocked five shots.

"They [Ball and the training staff] did more yesterday than the day before, and he says he feels good today but he is still out", Walton said before the Lakers played the Knicks.

For the first time during the 2017-18 National Basketball Association season, the Los Angeles Lakers won without Lonzo Ball, and Lakers coach Luke Walton spoke about how his team managed to beat a playoff team without three starters available.

Giants reportedly looking at Jack Del Rio
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports ex-Raiders coach Jack Del Rio is a "leading candidate" for the Giants' defensive coordinator job. At 3-13, NY had already fired both head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese, clearing the way for a new regime.

This will be two straight absences for Caldwell-Pope.

All three missed Friday's game against the visiting Indiana Pacers, but Los Angeles still managed a 99-86 victory behind 33 points off the bench from point guard Jordan Clarkson, who has been able to ignore trade rumor distractions. However, the home team has covered in five of the last six meetings and the Pacers have lost their last three games at the AT&T Center so while the Spurs haven't quite been at their best lately, they will be looking for revenge and I think they'll be good enough to get the win and cover in this one. "If I'm not, it is what it is". He has been performing well before passing the baton to Clarkson for long stretches.

Notes: Larry Nance Jr. finished the night with a double-double: 10 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks.

Clarkson had made only four shots in his previous two games, shooting 20 percent from the floor.

"I liked the effort", NY coach Jeff Hornacek told Newsday. But few could have imagined it would come on a night like Friday, especially when the remaining Lakers shot just 2 for 14 from the foul line. "We all want to stay together and continue to get better as a group". What's amusing is that Nigel Hayes, recently signed to an actual 10-day contract with the team, won't even make $100K for that stretch with the team.

What's Next: The Pacers (24-22) will conclude their 5-game homestand on Sunday night with a game in San Antonio.
