Back to work: Government shutdown ending as Dems relent

USA senators have struck a deal to lift a three-day government shutdown and try to end a fight between Democrats and President Donald Trump's Republicans over immigration and border security.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did not commit to a deal or compromise for Dreamers, something that many Democrats previously said was a condition for reopening the government after it shut down on Friday night.

Late on Monday, the Democratic leadership agreed to back the bill after accepting promises from Republicans for a debate later "on the future of young illegal immigrants".

The president's muddled views on the Children's Health Insurance Program and the U.S. -Mexico wall kept both parties on their toes, causing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to say that negotiating with the president is like "negotiating with Jell-O". The vote was 81 to 18 to invoke cloture on debate and proceed to a vote on the underlying Continuing Resolution in the Senate, the "continuing" part being funding the government.

The agreement came amid a three-day shutdown that resulted from Republicans and Democrats' inability to compromise on immigration, something the White House said Democrats should consider separately from keeping the government running.

A spending bill Friday night, which would've kept the government open through February 16, failed to get the 60 votes necessary to move forward. And the measure is nearly certainly a nonstarter in the House, where Speaker Paul Ryan has promised a vote on a conservative immigration measure championed by the chairmen of the Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees, if it has the support to pass.

However, contrary to a rumour before Saturday's game against Manchester City , Mike Ashley wasn't there to hear it. Had another good game, and got rid of those Liverpool demons.

"The Majority Leader's comments fell far short of the ironclad guarantee I needed to support a stopgap spending bill". Kamala D. Harris, D-Calif., who voted no. Many on the left are criticizing Schumer for "caving" with no obvious gain.

McConnell called off a 1 a.m. Monday vote on reopening the government in favor of the vote at noon, Washington time.

The US government can not fully operate without funding bills that are voted in congress regularly.

"Folks who don't want to have a solution are going to have to answer to the 80 percent of the American people who think that this is the right thing to do, it is the moral thing to do, and I am sure with an election around the corner folks may remember that", said Sen.

A new Trump political ad accused Democrats of being "complicit" in US murders committed by illegal immigrants. As the party in control of both Congress and the White House, Republicans failed when they could not pass a spending bill. Democrats wanted to pressure the GOP to cut a deal protecting young immigrants from deportation and boosting federal spending.

The president otherwise remained uncharacteristically quiet, heeding the advice of senior advisers who argued that he has the upper hand over Schumer and the Democrats and that they would soon be forced to capitulate. But he was emphatic in excluding President Trump from the deal, saying the Trump shutdown was about to end, and that he had been disengaged and on the sidelines during the weekend's negotiations. She said Miller was not at the White House "to push his agenda", but rather to support Trump's immigration views.
