Kevin Spacey cost Netflix $39 million

Kevin Spacey cost Netflix $39 million

The Financial Times was first to report the details behind the charge. Recently the company announced that the show will get a final season of a reduced number of episodes without Kevin Spacey, and instead Robin Wright will lead the eight-episode arc.

The news offers a glimpse into the financial cost that recent sexual harassment scandals have had on producers and distributors.

A source tells CNN that the charge is entirely from costs associated with ending "House of Cards" and opting not to proceed with the release of "Gore". Production on the final season, which has yet to air, was put on hold for weeks as showrunners rewrote the show without him.

Netflix also severed ties with Spacey's other projects, including a movie about late author Gore Vidal. He reportedly created a toxic working environment via a pattern of sexual harassment and intimidation, particularly at the height of its popularity.

NIA can't probe marital status: SC on Kerala love-jihad case
CJI Dipak Misra remarked that the NIA can probe into all aspects, with the exception of the marital status of Hadiya . The ruling by the bench came in after the NIA told the court that it had made progress in the investigation.

Even with the charge, Netflix had a blow-out quarter for subscriber growth, so investors were able to shrug it off.

Spacey was first accused of sexual assault towards the end of previous year, by actor Anthony Rapp, who alleges Spacey made sexual advances towards him when he was a teenager.

Netflix on Monday reported signing up 8.33 million new streaming customers in the final quarter of previous year, 2 million more than analysts expected, sending its shares up in after-the-bell trade more than 7 percent to a record high.

Another possible contributor to the write-down may be the planned Louis CK stand-up special, which Netflix also cancelled in the wake of sexual harassment allegations which surfaced in November. The Oscar-winning actor was written out of "House of Cards", the Netflix political intrigue drama in which Spacey starred as U.S. President Frank Underwood. Masterson has denied the allegations against him.
