Guardiola happy after Burnley draw

City had dominated possession throughout most of the game, which they strolled through for large spells.

It promises to be a thrilling finale to the Premier League campaign in the battle for the top four Champions League spots with only five points separating second-placed United and Tottenham in fifth. City now have 69 points from 26 games.

In an attacking line-up, Burnley boss Sean Dyche gave winger Aaron Lennon his first start since joining from Everton.

Danilo had looked like proving an unlikely match-winner for Pep Guardiola's side with a fine strike after 22 minutes of an otherwise frustrating day for City.

Manchester City: Ederson 8, Kyle Walker 6, Danilo 8, Vincent Kompany 7, Nicolas Otamendi 7, Fernandinho 7, Ilkay Gundogan 7, Kevin De Bruyne 7, Bernardo Silva 6, Raheem Sterling 6, Sergio Aguero 6.

Physio Ally Beattie was over-worked as he then had to revive goalkeeper Nick Pope after a collision with City captain Vincent Kompany as the visitors probed for the opening goal. Or he could have used one of the subs that came on and hasn't played a full game.

There is a fair chance that people will meet in pubs years from now to discuss how Sterling contrived to knock the ball wide of goal from three yards out.

"Perhaps they will knock that one off the run", he said of Saturday's draw.

"But football is about goals".

Manchester City dropped points for only the fourth time in this Premier League season as a terrible miss from Raheem Sterling cost them victory in a 1-1 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor.

Guardiola has made his point often enough that he did not feel the need to revisit the issue as he held a press conference on Friday, but that did not stop one of his key players speaking out.

Despite the wealth of talent in City's ranks, they arrived in Burnley short of numbers. We controlled the game, but when we arrived in the last minutes at 1-0, there was danger, " he said.

"I was really pleased". City is a top class side.

Despite dropping two points, Guardiola had only praise for his opponents. We have to change something. To do it against Burnley, it is so complicated. "We can't wait to play in front of our USA fans again".

"This win is good for our confidence and we have to fight 'til the end", Matic said after the game.
