Dead goose falls from sky, knocks hunter unconscious

Robert Meilhammer was struck by the goose after it was shot by someone in his hunting party early Thursday evening, the Washington Post reported.

A hunter was knocked out after a goose which had been shot and killed during a shoot fell from the sky onto his head.

One of the geese fell and hit Meilhammer, knocking him out and causing head and facial injuries, according to Candy Thomson, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Natural Resources Police.

The man was knocked unconscious and may have lost two teeth. At the point the bird hit Meilhammer, it would have been traveling at more than 50 miles an hour; gravity increases any object's speed as it gets closer to the ground.

Meilhammer was out hunting with a group of friends around 5 p.m. when the unlikely injury occurred.

When Meilhammer came to, he knew who he was but "little else", said a Natural Resources police officer.

Canada geese can weigh about 12 pounds and have a wing span reaching up to six feet.

As a precaution, he was taken via ambulance to Easton Airport and flown to Baltimore to be treated for injuries to his head and face.
