Congress Demands Apology From PM Modi For Remarks Against Renuka Chowdhury

Earlier in the day, Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 12 noon after the Congress members created an uproar.

Rijiju, however, clarified that he was only trying to show how the PM had kept his cool. "Later in the video was a clip from the Rajya Sabha, when PM Modi took a dig at Ms Chowdhury for laughing loudly in the middle of his speech".

Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily on Thursday said women ministers of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) should not act like slaves of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Some women ministers have said that Renuka Chowdhury deserved the comment from PM, of course they are entitled to defend the PM but this comment was against a woman".

Although, concerns of a bubble in the market have been speculated on for a while as Dow Jones has continued to set record heights. Minutes after the bell to signal the start of trading, Germany's DAX index dropped 3 percent to 12,308 points.

"I will have to name you Renuka ji for your unruly behaviour", remarked Naidu after Chowdhury laughed at the Prime Minister's claim over Aadhaar. She lashed out at the PM after the latter referred her to a character in Ramayana.

Rijiju had captioned the tweet as "Despite such vexatious laugh by Renuka Chaudhary ji PM Narendra Modi ji didn't get irritated". "What message goes to the youth when the PM and ministers pull down an empowered woman like Ms. Renuka Chowdhary just for laughing?" "We condemn it. He should apologise", he told reporters.

Renuka will also move privilege motion against the Prime Minister over his remarks. As Modi sought to take away credit from the Congress government for Aadhaar, Chowdhury burst into a guffaw that resonated across the chamber and drew the disapproval of Chairman Naidu. When Women Reservation bill was brought in Rajya Sabha, they supported it and today when I moved an amendment over the same issue they voted against it.

Meanwhile, The BJP accused the Congress of devaluing Parliament. When Naidu asked Chowdhary to behave, Modi urged him not to restrain the Congress MP. "Ever since seeing Ramayana serial, for the first time I have got an opportunity to see such a laughter", Modi said, to the thumping from the treasury benches.
