South Korea President to meet Kim Jong Un sister

South Korea President to meet Kim Jong Un sister

Thank you, robin. North Korea is sending athletes to the olympics and Kim Jong-un's sister to it as well and the opening ceremony tomorrow.

While concert-goers formed a long queue in Gangneung, which is hosting Olympic events, protesters across the street carried placards reading "No Pyongyang Olympics!".

The North's conciliatory moves related to the Olympics have generally been welcomed in the South.

Pyongyang has ruled out a meeting with the U.S. delegation during the Winter Games.

"We have never begged for dialogue with the United States and it will be the same going forward", it reported, citing Cho Yong Sam, director-general of the North American department of North Korea's foreign ministry. "But now in 2018 at Pyeongchang, we should talk more about peace and prosperity". But, he said, "we'll see what happens".

Speaking to United States and Japanese troops at the Yokota Air Base outside Tokyo on Thursday, Pence vowed to continue the "maximum pressure campaign" on North Korea in a bid to force Pyongyang to give up its nuclear missile program. "But it also needed do tone down its rhetoric and actions as a peace initiative toward South Korea during the Olympics".

In the past, North Korea has selected members for its cheerleading squad from university students studying in Pyongyang, prioritizing those from institutions focused on music and dance.

North Korea's delegation is being led by Kim Yong Nam, one of North Korea's most powerful politicians.

North Korea, at that point, will try and point back to the good will of the Olympic games, claiming that it is Washington that is driving a wedge between the two Koreas, and that its missile and nuclear tests are only aimed at the Trump administration-a slick divide-and-conquer strategy. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched all of it from a balcony above.

"We will not allow North Korean propaganda to hijack the message and imagery of the Olympic Games", Pence said.

Murray said the North and South Korean players are getting along "way better than I expected", and that she is enjoying having North Koreans who "are absorbing everything like sponges".

While North Korea has drawn worldwide headlines ahead of the Olympics, Vice President Mike Pence, who arrived in South Korea on Thursday, continued criticism against North Korea's authoritarian tactics despite signs of recent diplomatic progress.

Mr. Kim Jong Un might also have seen that U.S. President Donald Trump was sending his daughter, Ivanka, to the Olympics closing ceremony and chose to match the move by sending his sister, said Hong Min, an analyst at Seoul's Korea Institute for National Unification.

Fast-forward to today, and South Korea is a much different place as the Winter Games begin in the city of Pyeongchang. Four Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), capable of reaching the United States, and which sparked the ire of the global community when they were tested previous year, were among the hardware paraded past Kim Jong Un, his wife and sister Kim Yo Jong.

Seoul has said the delegation is due to arrive on Friday.

North Korea staged a massive military parade and rally in Pyongyang on February 8, showcasing its intercontinental ballistic missiles just one day before the Winter Olympics officially open in neighboring South Korea. "There's not a lot of people Kim Jong Un can trust".

North Korea had said it would hold a big event to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of its military.
