Media Correctly Reports Nancy Pelosi's Speech Wasn't a Filibuster

On Wednesday, Pelosi broke the record for the longest House floor speech - her eight-hour speech, the longest since 1909 at least - was meant to protest the fact that the plight of DACA recipients has not yet been addressed by Congress. The House, meanwhile, passed a short-term bill on Tuesday that would extend funding for the government until March 23, but it is expected to be altered in the Senate ahead of a Thursday deadline.

Frank Sharry, executive director of the pro-immigration America's Voice, said in a statement that Democrats must vote against the deal to prove their commitment to DACA recipients. "I think the process is broken". A number of House Democrats are now demanding a debate on immigration and have called on House Speaker Paul Ryan to allow for such a conversation.

During the grandstand, the Democrat read letters from so-called "Dreamers" about how the Obama-era overreach helped them get an education and jobs.

A lack of support from House Democrats could imperil an agreement to avoid the second partial government shutdown in a month.

But the objection wasn't universal, and the mood in a House Democratic caucus meeting this morning that convinced Pelosi to speak on the floor was split, according to a Democrat in the meeting. When asked by reporters whether she would whip her members to vote against it, though, she replied, "I'm just telling people why I'm voting the way I'm voting".

McConnell, Ryan and President Trump have all said they want to find a permanent fix for the roughly 700,000 people enrolled in the DACA program, which is set to expire March 5 under terms set by Trump past year.

When Eastwood made a decision to adapt their story to the screen he wanted the three men to play themselves. The friends also talked about working with Eastwood, as well as former "The Office" star Jenna Fisher.

She continued: "Our plea to the speaker is for us, for ourselves, to honor the values of our founders". Where the House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi has been speaking for almost seven hours straight.

At this point, Ryan has not signaled he is considering giving that to House Democrats.

In response, AshLee Strong, a spokeswoman for Ryan, told The Washington Examiner that Ryan "has already repeatedly stated we intend to do a DACA and immigration reform bill - one that the president supports". We support funding for our military, but growing the size of government by 13 percent adds to the swamp instead of draining it.

But left out of the deal would be a resolution for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, which Trump is ending - and House Democrats have always been steadfast that they would not support government funding without it.

"Let Congress work its will", Pelosi said.

There are no filibusters under House rules, but top leaders are allowed unlimited "leader time" and it's not uncommon for Pelosi to be yielded "one minute" but take more than 20 minutes.
