Mueller Turning His Sights on Kushner

USA special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation is probing Jared Kushner's attempts to secure foreign financing for his real estate company during the presidential transition period, CNN reported Monday. But efforts to secure money from the Chinese company, which also owns the Waldorf Astoria hotel in NY, ultimately failed.

It had been previously reported that Mueller was looking into Kushner's contacts with Moscow, his relationship with former national security adviser Michael Flynn and his role in the Trump campaign's data analytics operation.

One week after Trump's November 8, 2016 election, Kushner met with the chairman and other executives from the Chinese group Anbang Insurance to encourage investment in 666 Fifth Avenue, The New York Times has reported.

During the transition, Kushner was also the lead contact for foreign contacts trying to reach his father-in-law, the president elect.

Venezuela launches cryptocurrency called Petro
The pre-sale of Venezuelan own cryptocurrency " Petro ", which is backed by the country's oil reserves, has started. Skeptics say that concerns about Venezuela's financial solvency will likely limit investor interest, and the U.S.

CNN said Mueller's team is focussing on talks Kushner had with Chinese investors during the transition.

Citing "people familiar with the special counsel investigation", CNN reported that the Mueller team has been "asking questions, including during interviews in January and February, about Kushner's conversations during the transition to shore up financing for 666 Fifth Avenue, a Kushner Companies-backed New York City office building reeling from financial troubles". Kushner's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, said that his client had not been asked about the building. 666 Fifth Avenue has been a debt burden since its purchase - at the time of the original purchase, Kushner Companies put down $50 million towards the property but borrowed $1.75 billion in a sale that occurred shortly before the 2008 United States financial crisis.

Robert Mueller is already investigating Kushner over his contacts with Russian officials.
