Charlotte can expect some zany weather this week and next, with highs and lows rising 20 to 25 degrees above normal, a National Weather Service meteorologist said Monday.

New York City will feel the warmth as well, possibly breaking the previous record, though it could be too close to call it a sure shot right now, said Jay Engle from the NWS New York City office. Highs will remain well up in the 70s and lower 80s as the warm late winter pattern continues.

But Texas' proximity to the Gulf of Mexico means the warm air will carry a significant amount of moisture that will result in rain over the next several days. Gusty southwest winds over 40 miles per hour are forecast in the early afternoon. Temperatures today should reach the lower 80s in most locations, with record highs in some spots, including Montgomery. But the rest of the day will be partly sunny, with winds gusting as high as 23 miles per hour.

Showers, freezing rain and potential snowfall is on deck for Thursday, according to the Natioanl Weather Service, though no accumulation is expected.

Wednesday's high is forecast to be in the upper 50s, near 60 degrees, early in the day before a cold front passes through the region.

There may yet be a return to cold weather a bit farther down the road, though.

Rain could transition to snow overnight Wednesday, the weather service said. That would beat Wilmington's 1953 record of 70 degrees and Georgetown's 2014 record of 71 degrees, the weather service said.
