985 students expelled for cheating in Bihar board

The new rule comes days after 985 students were expelled for cheating during the intermediate examination conducted by the BSEB.

Talking to reporters after the annual exam ended, Anand Kishore, the Chairman of the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) said authorities also caught some 25 "fake students" who tried to write the exams for others. With the advent of technology and gadgets becoming smaller and smaller, examiners face a tough task to make absolutely sure that exams are held in fair manner. In a new rule issued, no candidate will be allowed to wear the socks and shoes.

The student will have to wear slippers to the examination hall. Keeping in mind the reports received by the Board regarding the delay in re-issue of the admit cards, the board has accordingly agreed to let the candidates appear in the examination on the basis of the old admit cards.

Mass cheating has been reported in the state for many years now and measures to restrict them have never been overlooked. The exam will take place in 1426 centers. On February 17, almost 1000 students were expelled for cheating during the Class 12th examinations in Bihar.

The board has also set up a 24-hour control room where students and teachers can register complaints. This is being done in a bid to avoid any cheating in the exams.

Candidates will be frisked at the entry gate of the exam venue and again after they sit in their allotted seats.

The exam will be conducted in two sittings in 1,426 centres across the state for 17,70,042 candidates - 8,91,243 boys and 8,78,794 girls. Both socks and shoes are banned from wearing to the examination.

The decision is taken to change the education system and examination pattern, which has brought a bad name to the state in past.
