The Doug Gottlieb Show: Austin Dillon

The Doug Gottlieb Show: Austin Dillon

The No. 3 is No. 1 again at Daytona, on a day, in a race and at a place forever linked with the great Dale Earnhardt. And he talks candidly about honoring Dale Earnhardt by driving the #3 auto and speaks in detail about his newest Daytona 500 tattoo.

Dillon's victory, in the 60th running of "The Great American Race", came 17 years to the day of Earnhardt's fatal crash. "We're still trying to win races", Dillon said. "I don't know what it is about storylines and Daytona". "I just wanted to make it to the end and give ourselves a chance, so I hate that we didn't have that opportunity".

The 27-year-old is the son of former driver and RCR general manager Mike Dillon, older brother of Ty Dillon and grandson of Richard Childress. I'm still very excited. "But I like that pressure, the same with the No. 3, there's a lot of pressure behind it, but I'm willing to take it and go with it". Almirola moved to block him, but Dillon ran into his right-rear quarter panel and turned him into the wall.

But that last-lap move proved Almirola will do anything to win, which is just what SHR wants in its drivers.

"We just had a run and I stayed on the gas". The Daytona 500 victor joins Cheddar to explain the emotions that came with the big win.

"It just wasn't meant to be today", Patrick said. Childress also received his Harley J. Earl Champion Owner's Trophy.

Blaney was the runner-up in the Daytona 500 a year ago and came back with a vehicle capable of winning.

It has always felt right to Stewart, whose friendship with Almirola dates to Almirola's days at Joe Gibbs Racing and part of a Reggie White-inspired diversity program.

"My heart is broken".

Jimmie Johnson, driver of the #48 Lowe's for Pros Chevrolet, is involved in an on-track incident with several other cars in the Daytona 500.

Seven-time Cup Series champion and two-time Daytona 500 victor Jimmie Johnson wrecked for the third time in a week when he was caught in a nine-car crash right before the end of the first stage.

"The emotions are just flowing, Childress said in Victory Lane".

Darrell "Bubba" Wallace Jr. finished in second place. Wallace drives the No. 43 vehicle for Richard Petty and sobbed in his post-race news conference after his mother came to the front of the room to give him a hug.

After another moment with his sister, Wallace sat at the dais sobbing into a towel. "You just finished second", he told himself.

Here are the NASCAR Cup Series Driver Power Rankings after Daytona.

Wallace sparred with 2016 victor Denny Hamlin on the final lap, then criticized Hamlin afterward.

Ryan Blaney, who led a race-high 118 laps, faded to seventh after giving the win away in regulation.

The race featured eight cautions and three huge wrecks.

"It's a shame you don't close it out, but you try to just learn from your mistakes and try to do better next time", Blaney said. With new boyfriend National Football League quarterback Aaron Rodgers cheering her on, Patrick was collected in an accident and finished 35th.

Then, it'll be back to racing. "So devastated. I thought I was going to win the Daytona 500. I remember your career.' So I hope that is how it is with me with everybody", she said.

To celebrate, Dillon got a tattoo to commemorate the occasion.

And while Austin is acting as if we might not be seeing the tattoo anytime soon, we have a feeling we might soon get a glimpse of it, as wife Whitney is incredibly active on social media, often documenting what seems like their entire lives on her Instagram feed. He has no top-10s in Cup at Vegas and none at Fontana, two of the three races that follow Atlanta.
