Israelis helped thwart Australian terror plot

According to the IDF Spokesperson's Unit: "Unit 8200 provided exclusive intelligence information to Australia that prevented the ISIS attack that would have resulted in the destruction of the plane".

As Breitbart Jerusalem reported, the attack in question occured a year ago when Australian police foiled what they claimed was an "Islamic-inspired" terror plot created to bring down an Etihad flight with a home made bomb.

Israeli military intelligence helped thwart a Sydney-based terror plot to use a home-made bomb to attack the airline.

The Israeli Defence Force provided crucial intelligence that uncovered an alleged plot to bring down a passenger plane with a bomb hidden in a meat grinder, Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has confirmed.

Speaking in Jerusalem on Wednesday at the Conference of President's of Major American Jewish Organizations annual conference, Israeli Prime MInister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the role Israeli intelligence had in foiling the attack in Australia, saying it had prevented "unimaginable slaughter" and a "major disruption to global air transfer".

But the device never made it onto the plane, apparently because it was too heavy to pass check-in.

Despite the inconsistencies in Mr Netanyahu's statements, Mr Dutton has been quick to praise the relationship between Israeli and Australian intelligence agencies.

Mr. Netanyahu also said the thwarted attack in Australia was one of dozens similar attacks Israel has prevented around the world.

"This Etihad flight was nearly blown out of the sky and it would have resulted in hundreds of people losing their lives", the minister told a Sydney radio station.

"The assumption in Australia was that the intelligence provided came via [the United Kingdom's] Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and MI6", he said.

On Wednesday the IDF revealed that their elite intelligence unit 8200 has successfully thwarted numerous terror attacks on targets around the western world that were being planned by ISIS.

One of the four men arrested was released without charge.

Lebanon authorities in August said a man linked to those charged had moved to the Islamic State stronghold of Raqqa in Syria and became a commander in the jihadist group more than 12 months earlier.

Khaled Merhi, 40, was charged with an unrelated offence of possessing an unauthorised Taser.
