The autopsy report said that Madhu's death was caused by internal bleeding caused by a grave injury in the back of the head.

Madhu was beaten to death by a group of persons for allegedly stealing food articles from some shops in the forest-fringe Agali town. "Since the report indicated attack, eight accused will be charged with murder and other sections of the IPC", inspector general of police M R Ajith Kumar, who is heading the special investigation team, said.

Madhu, who was attacked on Thursday evening, later succumbed to severe injuries in the head, chest and ribs.

Police said the post mortem would be conducted at the Thrissur Medical College hospital later, only after which the exact cause of the death will be known. The police arrested nine more people on Saturday, taking the number of those held to eleven.

After the post-mortem, the body was taken to Attappady, where people from various walks of life thronged to pay tributes.

The deceased, suspected to be mentally unsound, was identified as Madhu, hailing from Kadukumanna settlement of Attappady, one of the largest and backward tribal hamlets in the state.
