NRA Corporate Partners Are Feeling the Heat as Boycott Calls Increase

But the NRA is a well-funded membership operation devoted to a single cause - guns - and unlikely to be moved by the actions of companies with which it has such loose and peripheral ties. "If other companies continue to (cut ties) it can start to have an adverse public relations effect", Spitzer told the news service.

"At Juniper, we had the chance to get the NRA affinity relationship, and we passed", Vague said. By the same token, in coming out publicly against the NRA as part of the #BoycottNRA movement, those same companies are banking on the idea that they'll ingratiate themselves to a majority of people. Rental vehicle company Hertz will no longer offer a discount program to NRA members and First National Bank of Omaha said it will not renew a co-branded credit card it has with the NRA.

Meanwhile, tell us what you think - will a national corporate boycott of the NRA bring a change to gun policy?

Some of the backlash has centered on the National Rifle Association (NRA), an organization that promotes gun rights in the United States.

"Banks and other companies are sensitive to being on the wrong side of a social media campaign, which can spread pretty quickly these days", said Erik Gordon, a University of MI business professor who has taught classes on marketing. Maybe they and other young people will ignite a civic fire.

United denied having an "affiliation" with the NRA in a statement that said the discount was arranged through a "standard meeting agreement process".

The invoking of children, or the idea of children, has been a rhetorical device in political speeches and campaigns for much of recent American history.

The university was also ranked No. 1 among graduate schools producing volunteers in 2017. In 2017, Carleton also ranked No. 13 among small schools.

"Much like AARP or AAA, the organization promotes its discounts for members as a selling point for why people should join", ThinkProgress wrote. With Carry Guard, the NRA has figured out how to profit from gun owners who are concerned about being accused of murder. I call it the Guns-protect-you Disease.

But some are major national and worldwide companies. Wyndam and Best Western hotels previously stopped offering NRA member perks, Business Insider reported.

Enterprise Holdings, with three car-rental brands including Enterprise, Alamo and National, also is ending its discount program with the group on March 26.

Separately, vehicle rental company Enterprise said its three brands would end a discount program for NRA members.

Several auto rental companies, hotels and banks have cancelled the special offers and discounts they have for NRA members.

-Avis: Avis provides discounts to NRA members. None of the other companies immediately responded to requests for comment. "There are only 5 million NRA members but over 300 million of us!"

Now, NRA members will still be able to purchase NRA-branded prepaid Visa debit cards because those are available through a different provider.

The NRA was advertising a Hertz partnership on its "member benefits" page as recently as Friday morning, but that listing disappeared by the afternoon.
