These states are the best and worst at providing opportunities for women

The worst states for women, according to WalletHub, are nearly all in the south.

Surprisingly, it doesn't crack the top five in a state strength: voting.

Minnesota was the best state in the country for women.

These scores, in turn, were calculated using data that ranges from job security for women and the share of women-owned businesses to the quality of women's hospitals and rates of female depression, suicide and homicide.

The Land of 10,000 Lakes scored highest when it came to women's economic and social well-being, and the state also scored among the top three when it came to safety and health. It took the No. 1 spot for having both the lowest percent of uninsured women and the best preventative healthcare, which factored in what percent of the female population were up-to-date on things like cervical and breast cancer screenings.

Minnesota is the best state for women, while Louisiana is the worst, according to the study.
