Statue Politics Continue: Ambedkar And Periyar Statues Vandalized After Lenin

The statue of Communist icon Lenin, the Russian revolutionary who had led the fight against the fascist regime in Europe, was vandalized in Belonia town on Monday by BJP workers.

The demolition of communist icon Lenin's statues in Tripura and disfiguring a statute of Periyar EV Ramasamy in Tamil Nadu showed the intolerant approach of the BJP towards any other ideology other than Hindutva, CPI (M) leader Prakash Karat said today.

Days after it was routed in Tripura, the CPM has admitted that BJP's campaign struck a chord with young voters because generating jobs for educated youth and tackling unemployment has posed a serious challenge for the Left Front government. Then on Wednesday, a bust of the founder of the Jana Sangh Party - forerunner of the BJP - Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, was defaced in Kolkata.

A group of seven, who identified them as "Radicals", mounted the platform broke part of the statue and smeared it in black but were caught by the locals and handed over to police, sources said. As a fallout of Raja's comment and the vandalising of Periyar's statue at Thirupattur in Vellore district late on Tuesday, several Tamil Brahmins were attacked in Triplicane area here on Wednesday morning and their sacred thread were cut by vandals on two wheelers raising pro-Ramasamy slogans.

"The DMs and the SPs will be personally held responsible for any such incidents of vandalism of statues", a Home Ministry official said, quoting the second advisory. The situation is "completely under control", superintendent of police (control) Pradip De said.

Left parties have strongly condemned the post-poll violence perpetrated allegedly by BJP in Tripura State after Assembly elections.

The regulator also suspended the operations of Bit Station and FSHO , exchanges based in Yokohama and Nagoya, for one month. The FSA said FSHO was not properly monitoring trades and employees at the exchange had not undergone proper training.

Asserting that the issue was not only about statues being attacked, but the "attack on all kinds of dissent", the Left leaders appealed to the newly-formed BJP government in Tripura to restore peace and normalcy in the north-eastern state at the earliest.

Kolkata: With the CPI (M) fast losing its importance in Bengal politics, the party is all set to revamp its party organisation by removing ageing leaders and inducting more young faces, a senior party leader said.

Chennai: After the collapse of its alliance with the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh, it now appears to be the turn of the "servile" AIADMK to turn the heat on the BJP in Dravidian Tamil Nadu. "These incidents can never be justified", Rajnath told reporters outside Parliament.

"We condemn such incidents". This comes after BJP leader H Raja had posted on his Facebook page about taking down Periyar's statue.

BJP president Amit Shah also warned the BJP workers in Tripura and Tamil Nadu from indulging in vandalisation of statues. The police told TNM that Francis was a member of the CPI.
