Adrian Peterson could return to Cardinals after release

Adrian Peterson appears to be headed back to the open market.

The Arizona Cardinals will release the veteran running back Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports, citing a source.

The team would have to pay the running back $750,000 if he was still with Arizona by Friday, which is the third day of the National Football League calendar year.

After being traded to the Cardinals last season from the Saints, Peterson ran 129 times for 448 yards and two touchdown in six games.

Sir William Perkin was born in the East End to a carpenter father and Scottish mother, and he was the youngest of seven children. That is, until Sir William Henry Perkin accidentally discovered aniline dyes, the most famous of which is known as mauveine.

Peterson suffered a season-ending neck injury on November 26. He adds, however, Peterson could still return to the Cardinals once he's cut.

Peterson spent 2007 to 2016 with the Vikings, making seven Pro Bowls, four All-Pro teams while winning the 2012 MVP. He'll turn 33 next week and may have to settle for a committee role, having played more than 10 games in a season just once since 2013.

Peterson has 99 rushing touchdowns, tied with Barry Sanders for ninth all time.
