Kawhi Leonard Reportedly Could Return from Quad Injury Thursday vs. Pelicans

The San Antonio Spurs might receive a huge boost for the stretch run as star small forward Kawhi Leonard could be available for the team's game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday, according to a report from ESPN.

Leonard, 26, has not played since January 13 as he's dealt with a quad injury that's persisted all season.

Leonard has been riding a stationary bike and participating in three-on-three drills to simulate the physical contact of games, but has done so with staff members and "not my players".

It's at the point where San Antonio realistically might miss the playoffs, which would be the first time since the 1996-97 season, when David Robinson missed most of it due to injury, and led to Tim Duncan at No. 1 overall in the 1997 NBA Draft.

Leonard's return would bring an end to a seemingly endless saga, and one highly unusual for the usually drama-free Spurs.

Combs started things off by scoring the award for Best New Country Artist , which was announced off camera. She also gave an epic nod to those who don't count themselves among her fan club.

That would give Kawhi and the Spurs 14 games to not just prepare for the playoffs but make sure that San Antonio qualifies for the postseason. "I don't have a set date right now (for my comeback).

I feel better, and I'm feeling more comfortable", Leonard said last Thursday AEDT.

But it's not just the injuries themselves that have been weird, but rather all the speculation and changing statuses that have come with them.

His potential return is very timely as well, as the Spurs have lost eight of their last 10 outings, and saw their record drop to 37-29 for the season. I'm thankful for them, for the teammates that I have.
