CM Punk says he's returning to UFC on June 9th

CM Punk's chose to quit the WWE and pursue his dream of being a cage fighter in the UFC.

TMZ Sports announced on Monday afternoon that former WWE Champion CM Punk will return to The Octagon for his second career fight in the UFC.

Punk made the announcement while responding to a rude person on Twitter who asked, "So when are we gonna see you cry again in the Octagon?"

"June nine, after I win and lock eyes with my handsome wife, embrace my coaches and shout out my entire team".

Florida State, Georgia and Duke should also make that corner of the bracket more interesting heading into the regionals weekend. Defending national champion SC and A'ja Wilson await as a possible Elite Eight matchup for UConn in the Albany Regional.

Punk has been rumored for that UFC 225 card for quite some time as the former professional wrestler hails from Chicago and has a huge fan base in his home city. If Punk's statement is to be taken at face value, he'll be fighting at the event. That would certainly make a lot more sense for Mayweather as CM Punk is more or less on his level in terms of being an MMA fighter.

The UFC 225 pay-per-view event is scheduled to go down on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Almost two years after his UFC signing was announced, Punk stepped in the octagon against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September 2016. He quickly lost to Mickey Gall via submission in the first round.

Despite plenty of naysayers who feel Punk's spot in the UFC is unearned, it appears the fight may actually happen. Coincidentally, Jackson has also suffered a first round loss to Mickey Gall, the same man who submitted Punk via rear-naked choke at UFC 203.
