Fiorentina beat Benevento in emotional Davide Astori tribute match

Before the match at the Artemio Franchi stadium, the two teams and fans observed a minute of silence in tribute to the Italy defender, age 31, who died on March 4 in his sleep from an apparent heart attack, reports Efe.

In their first outing since the tragic death of their club captain, Fiorentina used Sunday's Serie A game against Benevento to pay mass tribute to the late Davide Astori.

After the entire football weekend was postponed, Serie A is back in action with Fiorentina beating Benevento 1-0 at home.

Earlier this Fiorentina announced they would be retiring the shirt in memory of their former captain.

Concerns over White House staffers' security clearances have punctuated much of the West Wing news over the past several weeks. The new security clearance rules imposed by Kelly have also meant a change for another close Trump adviser: Jared Kushner .

As tears flowed down the cheeks of fans in the stands, balloons in violet and white were released into the air, and in the 13th minute, the ball was put out of play as Fiorentina fans raised flags and engaged in a minute of applause.

Fiorentina held on to their one-goal lead to win the match and move up to ninth in the table.

Players lined up with "Ciao Davide" slogans on their shirts before displaying a banner across the centre circle, which read: 'Captain forever'.

The only goal of the game was scored by Vitor Hugo, the man who replaced Astori in defence and who wore the Number 31 jersey - the reverse of Astori's 13.
