Manchester United v Sevilla talking points

Manchester United v Sevilla talking points

The last time these two sides met, Manchester United held on to a scoreless draw at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan last month in a game where Los Nervionenses could have easily escaped with the win based on all the scoring chances they missed.

Manchester United can become the third English team to reach the quarter-finals of this season's UEFA Champions League if they down Sevilla in their last-16 second leg at Old Trafford on Tuesday. The former Manchester City star is the only one who would be a starter if fit, however, while the absences of Corchia, Carrico and Carole certainly weaken the side defensively.

Anthony Martial is available after missing the last two games with a thigh injury but Ander Herrera, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind have been ruled out.

Manchester United have been in pretty good form at the moment. "I'm not upset at all with that reaction", insisted Mourinho before launching a staunch defence of Scott McTominay, who was selected ahead of Pogba for the first leg against Sevilla.

Although Castro acknowledged that the knockout rounds are tough, saying that "all your opponents outweigh you in budget by many times", he emphasised that his team is looking to seize this opportunity and qualify for the Champions League quarterfinals. Midfield is an area Mourinho is likely to strengthen in the offseason - Michael Carrick officially announced on Monday he would be retiring this summer - so McTominay will face more competition for a place.

Mourinho-managed teams, too, are hard to beat when they are ahead - a fact highlighted by a prolific Liverpool side's struggles to break down United after the Portuguese set his side up defensively in the second period following Marcus Rashford's two-goal salvo in the first 24 minutes.

While plenty of it has to do with his sensational display of fast bowling , most of it pertains to his disciplinary issues. For me, it's pure passion! In a period of about three years, he has shown that he could end up as a great.

Carrick has been limited to just three starts this season after undergoing a heart procedure in September, and will call it a career after 12 years with the club. "We are going to try to prove that we are better [than the first leg]".

The former England worldwide also indicated there is a good chance he will remain on the bench next season, albeit in a coaching role. "I have to give the credit to Mr [Louis] Van Gaal who was responsible for his first season in the first team".

7 - Jose Mourinho has only lost seven of his previous 69 Champions League home games as manager (W48 D14), though five of those defeats have been against Spanish opposition. It's something you've got to accept so that's where I am at.

What time does the Barcelona vs Chelsea match start? No, of course not.

Admitting that United have no "advantage", Mourinho said a pre-match press conference yesterday: "The first leg leaves everything open for tomorrow". "That's why I don't like the winter market very much".
