Trump ousts Tillerson, taps CIA Director Pompeo for State Dept.

Donald Trump has replaced Rex Tillerson as US Secretary of State.

Trump also thanked Tillerson, saying "A great deal has been accomplished over the last fourteen months, and I wish him and his family well", according to the Washington Post. "Congratulations to all!" he tweeted. There had been longstanding rumors throughout most of Tillerson's tenure of friction between Trump and his secretary of state, a former Exxon Mobile Corp. CEO.

He announced that deputy CIA Director Gina Haspel will become the new director, and the first woman so chosen. "His leadership has made America safer and I look forward to representing him and the American people to the rest of the world to further America's prosperity", Pompeo said in a statement.

"His experience in the military, Congress and as leader of the Central Intelligence Agency have prepared him well for his new role, and I urge his swift confirmation", said Trump in a statement. Both she and Pompeo will have to be confirmed by the Senate. Trump announced the decision on Twitter today.

Japan ready to 'fully' back IAEA inspections in North Korea
On Monday night, Trevor Noah had a lot to say about President Trump's meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un . Trump does not care if North Korea's president feels good about some political maneuver.

Mr Trump thanked Mr Tillerson for his time working for the White House.

The move comes less than a week after the Trump administration agreed to a historic meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. In October, NBC news reported that Tillerson called the president a "moron", something Tillerson never actually denied.

Last year, Tillerson said the United States should talk with North Korea, which Trump quickly shot down.
