YouTube extends its 'Dark Theme' to Android and iOS

Our first hint of serious work towards a dark mode for YouTube landed last fall, when we saw signs of a dark theme for the app's video-playback panel.

Google is adding an option for users to toggle the overwhelming white YouTube app dark with an update rolling out today.

The feature debuted on the YouTube desktop client past year.

To activate the dark theme, head to the YouTube app settings and slide the little switch next to "dark theme" to the right ... and hey presto!

YouTube recently rolled out a Dark Mode to its website, and frankly, it's hot.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald takes place in 1927, just a few months after Newt's adventures in NY . Check it out above. "I can't move against Grindelwald ", Dumbledore says near the end of the trailer.

Unfortunately for now, the new dark theme will be arriving on the YouTube iOS app only at first, though the company noted that it will be arriving on Android "soon" too.

Reportedly, dark mode on Android is coming "soon", but whether that means days or weeks, we can't yet say. Those on desktop can now activate the feature by clicking the three dots on the top right corner and then dark theme.

If you're a regular YouTube viewer, you've probably already heard of the platform's "Dark Mode" functionality.

According to Google, a dark mode was one of the most requested features for its mobile apps. Have you ever opened the YouTube app in the middle of the night? At the time, the feature was said to be available for some mobile users.
