Walmart Will Launch Same-Day Grocery Delivery in NYC

The Journal reports that the move is part of a wider grocery-delivery expansion plan - by partnering with Uber and other delivery start-ups, Walmart will bring Great Value-brand canned peas to your doorstep in 100 USA cities by year's end.

Walmart said on Wednesday that it planned to offer home delivery of groceries bought online in 100 cities in the United States, as it seeks to compete with rival retailers, led by Amazon, amid an accelerating campaign for control of America's kitchen cupboards. With all those new cities, the service will eventually reach 40 percent of USA households, the company said.

The service would be rolled out to more than 40 percent of USA households by the end of the year, Walmart said Wednesday.

Walmart began delivering groceries through a pilot program in Phoenix, Denver and San Jose, Calif., two years ago, then expanded the experiment to include Tampa, Fla., Orlando, Fla., and Dallas last year. Walmart may also be able to use the new service as a way to give its online sales a shot in the arm, after a holiday quarter that disappointed Wall Street due to slowing online sales growth. The news is the latest salvo in Walmart's quickly escalating war with Amazon, which just last month announced Whole Foods grocery delivery was available via Prime Now.

Providing this service is another way Walmart is trying to counter Amazon's convenience and speed.

Philippines Plans to Withdraw From International Criminal Court
In February, the ICC launched a preliminary inquiry into allegations of crimes against humanity committed by Duterte. Duterte dared it to bring him to trial and said he would rot in jail to save Filipinos from crime and drugs.

Stores that already offer grocery pick-up will be the first to unroll delivery.

About 90 percent of Americans live within 10 miles of a Walmart, Ward said. "Using our size and scale, we're bringing the best of Walmart to customers across the country", Foran added.

Shipt started delivering groceries from Publix Super Markets in 2015. Both companies have also introduced services that allow delivery people to enter homes and leave packages inside. Walmart said more delivery companies will be announced later. For now, younger shoppers tend to buy more groceries online, but the large majority shop in stores, Cowen said.

Amazon is now rolling out free two-hour delivery of Whole Foods groceries in six cities to Prime members who pay $99 a year. It will continue to offer its collection service for online orders too, which allows customers to fill their grocery basket from home or the Walmart app, and then have the bags loaded into their vehicle at the store.
