Muslim Leaders Speak About Bloomington Mosque Bombing Arrests

"A search warrant was also executed at a store/office owned by Hari, located at 100 S. Main Road in Clarence (Illinois.)" Even as officials in Illinois sorted through charges against the quartet, federal authorities in Bloomington, Minnesota, were announcing the mosque-related developments late Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Hari, 47, the owner of Crisis Resolution Security Services, and two other men, Michael McWhorter, 27, and Joe Morris, 22, are facing federal charges for allegedly carrying out the bombing on the Dar al-Farooq Islamic Center last August in Bloomington, Minn., according to a criminal complaint filed in USA district court Tuesday.

Michael McWhorter, 29, all of Clarence, face one count each of arson in federal court, said U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Gregory G. Brooker.

- Minnesota is home to the largest Somali community outside of east Africa, and on Tuesday, they praised the FBI's announcement that they arrested several people in connection with the explosion at the Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center in August.

According to an official statement made by the U.S. Attorney's Office in IL, these men are also suspects in the attempted bombing of an abortion clinic.

A fourth man, Ellis Mack, 18, was arrested for possession of an assault rifle but was not identified as a suspect in the bombing or attempted bombing.

Fellow suspect Hari also previously told the Chicago Tribune in April 2017 how he planned to build President Donald Trump's border wall with Mexico for around $10 billion.

McWhorter told investigators that it was Hari's idea to attack the mosque. McWhorter described a PVC pipe bomb and said Morris broke a window and threw it in, where it failed to go off, according to the complaint. The tip contained photos of guns and bomb making material in Hari's parent's house where he usually stayed.

The complaint alleges that the men carried out the attack, because they wanted to "scare [Muslims] out of the country".

The complaint also said nothing about a possible motivation for the clinic attack. The truck then sped away, the affidavit said.

Its national office also urged mosques and Islamic centers nationwide to increase security. "At the same time, we have a lot of concerns, a lot of questions", said Mohamed Omar with Dar Al-Farooq.

Jaylani Hussein, executive director of the Minnesota chapter of the Muslim advocacy and civil liberties group Council on American-Islamic Relations, welcomed news of the arrests. The video didn't show the blast itself.
