Mateo will be responsible for advising the committee to help low-income and marginalized people attend college. It was finalized one day after President Donald Trump visited California to review prototypes for a proposed wall along the U.S. -Mexico border.

"Ms. Mateo is a courageous, determined and intelligent young woman who at great personal risk has dedicated herself to fight for those seeking their rightful place in this country", de Leon said in a statement.

Lizbeth Mateo, an attorney and immigrant rights activist, will serve on a California board helping disadvantaged students.

Mateo earned a law degree from Santa Clara University in 2016, passed the California State Bar exam previous year and now has a private practice in Wilmington, Calif., a suburb of Long Beach. She also played a key role in helping a group of young people now known as the "Dream 9" return to the US after being deported to Mexico.

And after Trump chose to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program, de León said he was instrumental in negotiating a $30 million to assist the almost 250,000 Dreamers in California with legal services as well as "safety net" funding to help DACA students stay in school should they become unable to work to support their education.

"California thrives because we welcome immigrants and innovators from across the globe", Gov.

'Difficult call' to leave out Cahill - Southgate
An worldwide tug of war appeared to be growing for the midfielder McTominay after several solid displays for Jose Mourinho's men. England manager Gareth Southgate maintains it's business as usual ahead of the World Cup.

He said the Senate did not ask Mateo for a Social Security card.

California's possible response? Appointing an undocumented immigrant woman to a state senate committee.

The Senate Rules Committee appointed Lizbeth Mateo to be an adviser on college access and financial aid.

In a federal lawsuit filed last week, Attorney General Jeff Sessions retaliated with a lawsuit against California over its "sanctuary state" policies, CNN reported.

Mateo has been in the public eye as an advocate for Dreamers for several years.

Mateo has a long history of fighting for immigrant rights and in 2010 risked deportation in an effort to demand the passing of the Dream Act.

Despite advances for undocumented immigrants in California, Mateo points to access to health care and other services that remain beyond reach for many.
