Kansas Basketball: Jayhawks can't start slow against Seton Hall

Kansas has quite the following in Wichita with nearly 4,000 students bussed from schools to Intrust Bank Arena simply to watch them practice Wednesday.

Saturday was an off night for Graham, the Big 12's player of the year, in an NCAA Tournament second-round game against Seton Hall at Intrust Bank Arena.

The Jayhawks would gladly welcome the 7-foot sophomore's usual contribution of 13.7 points, which includes the nation's most accurate touch (77.4 percent).

Kansas gets the victor of Sunday's second-round game between Auburn and Clemson in the Sweet 16 on Friday night in Omaha.

Kansas led just 31-26 at halftime, when Delgado had already piled up 12 points and 12 rebounds, and was forced to make some significant adjustments in the locker room.

Wichita - Through first-hand experience and a little good-natured conditioning courtesy of the man they've seen grab so many missed shots over the past four seasons, Seton Hall players lovingly refer to senior center Angel Delgado as "the best rebounder in college basketball", prefacing or following the phrase with words such as "obviously" or "everybody knows that".

"Playing more was pretty much about my mindset", Azubuike said.

Kansas ranks 13th in assists per game (16.8) while Seton Hall ranks 111th in assists allowed per game (12.8).

So good that Self, who didn't start Azbuike, wasted no time getting him into the game as it became apparent KU's Mitchell Lightfoot was going to struggle with Delgado. I said, Coach, I'm ready whenever you want me to. "You know, I look at them and compare them to teams that we've played, and if you look at them in our league, they would fare very well in our league without question". I mean, that's more than we've done. "I think he's overlooked but he don't dwell on that at all". "He reminds me a lot of what Jalen Brunson does for Villanova, kind of can score the ball at any time, runs the team extremely well". Of course, Seton Hall had a lot to do with that. But there's an abundance of talent in the guys who play the bulk of the minutes. "We've played against some good dudes this year but we haven't played against anybody who is the combination of a force and a scorer and the rebounder he is, and as a passer", Self said. But he was less effective when Azubuike was in the game, a matchup that often sounded like battleships colliding. Fifty-two other NCAA Tournament teams weren't as lucky. They're disciplined, they play hard.

It was nice having KU in town. The Jayhawks have their sights set on Omaha.
