Trump Signs $1.3 Trillion Omnibus Spending Bill

Trump Signs $1.3 Trillion Omnibus Spending Bill

The omnibus bill, the president said, necessarily boosts our military, increasing defense funding by $60 billion from past year.

The omnibus bill would increase domestic spending by $128 billion over the 2011 sequestration budget caps and increase military spending by $160 billion over the budget caps.

"There are a lot of things" he's "unhappy about in the bill". "We were, in a sense, forced [to sign] if we wanted to build our military". But I say to Congress that I will never sign another bill like this again.

Pro-life lawmakers were told there was hope the Conscience Protection Act would be included in the bill, but there was no mention of it in the text released Wednesday. He also demanded that the Senate repeal the filibuster rule, which Democrats have abused to require a 60-vote threshold on almost every piece of legislation considered by Congress during the Trump presidency. The bill comes after more than 1,000 city leaders lobbied Congress over the past year to save Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), TIGER grants, workforce development and education programs, and energy efficiency and renewable energy programs. "If we truly cared about the millennials, we would firstly keep them safe by immediately funding the border wall".

He allowed the vote to go forward after sharing on Twitter highlights from roughly a quarter of the 2,232-page bill, which includes all 12 of the regular appropriation bills for fiscal 2018 that runs through the end of September.

Thus, his conservative agenda was stripped away, in a pragmatic move to take the "throw him out of the WH" pressure.

Of the 234 Republicans in the House of Representatives, only 67 voted against the February bill that would expand budget spending. "Additionally, improving the way we fund wildfire suppression will help us better manage our forests. It's not right, and it's very bad for our country", Trump added.

Trump canceled the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that gives work permits to the Dreamers and protects them from deportation. Senate Republicans made a last-ditch effort to tuck insurance provisions into the bill, but Democrats refused to yield on abortion restrictions.

Earlier the same day, Trump threatened to veto the legislation over lack of sufficient spending for a wall along the Southern border, a previous non-negotiable for the president.
