Amazon Echo, Echo Dot price in India dropped after Google Home launch

That adds video conferencing between Echo users to the repertoire of other Alexa features like listening to music, reading audiobooks and podcasts, and receiving answers to questions you didn't even know you wanted to ask. Also, the higher version of the speaker, the Echo which retails at Rs 9,999 can be bought at Rs 16,998 when bought two at a time.

Amazon has it discounted by 14% off at $59.99 right now, saving you an extra $10 off. "We will offer free six months of Google Play Music - a music and podcast streaming service - and special offers from commercial music streaming service Gaana", Mr Chandra added.

Google launched the Home and Home Mini speakers in India at very competitive prices, pitting them against the Amazon Echo and Echo Dot. All these smart speakers included 1 year Prime membership and complimentary Prime Music access at no additional cost.

While Google has launched the platform in India, in the long run, it plans to launch a host of services on Assistant, including direct connection to e-commerce portals such as Flipkart for voice search and sales. That said, the list of Canadian-supported Alexa skills is growing, and now includes CBC, Uber, TELUS, The Weather Network, Air Canada, and more.

The suspect tried to prevent the woman from leaving their home, but she managed to escape and call for help, police say. The victim told investigators he would text her, asking her inappropriate questions about her body.

The smart speaker industry has recently gathered a lot of traction with Apple and Amazon going head-to-head with HomePod and Echo devices, respectively. Speaking the wake word followed by a command will intimidate the smart speaker to follow that and perform the required task given that it is within its capabilities.

The Echo did not have any competition. "It understands Indian accents and will respond to users with uniquely Indian contexts", Google vice-president of product management and general manager of Home products Rishi Chandra said. Interestingly the Google Home and Home Mini come with a similar price tag of Rs 9,999 and Rs 4,499 respectively. The speaker comes loaded with Alexa and it can be used to trigger multiple actions. Echo not so much.

"We will launch Hindi language support later this year so that users can choose the language they are comfortable with". These skills will improve the overall functionality and usability of Amazon Echo speakers in India. It's also the first Alexa speaker with a touchscreen to make a debut north of the border, beating out the larger-sized Echo Show. Whatever be the case, the smart speaker market, is now opening up in India, and that's a good thing for buyers looking to invest in such a technology. What I am trying to say here is that both the Home and Echo have their own share of advantages and disadvantages.
