Uber calls self-driving cars

CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced at an event on Wednesday users will be able to rent cars via startup Getaround directly within the Uber app.

Uber's announcement spree started earlier this week with the acquisition of Jump Bikes, a bikeshare company specializing in electric bicycles.

Kingsway will offer preferential discounts to drivers operating on the Uber app as well as a 30 per cent discount on all service related products.

Khosrowshahi said the Uber app would start including locations for electric bikes from its newly acquired bike-sharing group Jump, which now operates in Washington and San Francisco.

Uber Technologies will connect USA riders directly to emergency number 911 from this summer, the latest in a package of measures created to improve the global ride-hailing company's popular image. "As we think about a solution for urban mobility for cities, we have to have a solution for auto ownership and we have to work together to make sure that living in a city or living in an urban destination doesn't require you to own a vehicle", he said.

You won't find a team who can keep the same momentum, the same rhythm, the same pace with this amount of games. Speaking to BT Sport after the match, the City manager spoke witheringly of Mateu Lahoz's officiating.

Uber also announced a partnership with Masabi, which offers mobile ticketing services for public transport, to let customers book and use tickets for train, bus and ferry services in the app.

To get there, the company is starting a pilot program in share "curb usage" data across all modes of transportation.

He continued: "Autonomous is part of the solution, and I think in the long term is going to be a very important part of the solution of getting rid of vehicle ownership".

"Technology and data alone are not solutions for urban problems-but when done right, and in partnership with others, they have the potential to contribute to a better world for all", says Khosrowshahi. That stopped, at least temporarily, on March 18 when one of Uber's self-driving Volvos was involved in a fatal crash that took the life of Elaine Herzberg, 49, in Tempe, Arizona.
