Apple iPhone 6s Plus may be locally manufactured in 2 weeks

This would bring the price of the iPhone 6s to the same level as that of the One Plus.

Following up on a January report that Apple planned to produce cheap iPhone 6s models at a new production facility in Bengaluru, India, the country's Economic Times said today that Apple is trialing iPhone 6s Plus production, with plans to begin domestic manufacturing in two weeks. According to the executives, the production of iPhone 6s Plus in India will cut down its prices by 5-7 percent. India's government raised tariffs on smartphones from 15 to 20 percent in February, forcing Apple to seek new measures to drop its prices and stay competitive. The company didn't officially lower the rate of the iPhone SE when it began putting together the handset in India, but online and offline discounts allow the phone to be sold for as low as Rs 18999 nowadays.

The iPhone 6S Plus is one of the more popular iPhones in India.

The Kremlin on Saturday condemned Western air strikes on Syria where its armed forces are backing President Bashar al-Assad. In the UK, Cabinet ministers said that it was "highly likely" the Assad regime was responsible for the attack.

It's only when the local manufacturing plan "gains scale" will the buyers see a price correction. Industry executives said Apple has also started discussion with its component vendors and contract manufacturers like Flex, Foxconn and Wistron to expand local sourcing, including components.

During the declaration of the Union Budget for the year, the government imposed a ten percent customs duty hike on components like printed circuit boards populated with memory and chips, camera modules and connectors. If Apple is able to make parts in India, it could price its iPhones even lower. Apple has been slowly adapting to these changes over the past few months, expanding local sourcing to 2 more partners namely Salcomp for chargers and adapters and Shenzhen YUTO for packaging.
