Blizzard warning for northwest Iowa, maybe an inch here

Blizzard warnings were issued from northeast Colorado through central Dakota as the storm geared up Friday.

Those to the south can expect severe thunderstorms in the forecast as well as "the potential for a few tornadoes". Heavy snow, freezing rain and high winds were expected through Saturday night, with heavy ice accumulations in parts of MI through Sunday morning. Visibility is poor. Travel is extremely unsafe. Ice accumulations are also possible. While confidence is still low in specific amounts and locations, latest indications suggest that at least a couple inches of snow accumulation will be possible northwest of the Cedar Rapids, to Dubuque Iowa areas.

The huge storm, packing enough energy to cause widespread disruption, isn't unprecedented for April, said Jake Beitlich, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

There's a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Skies will be cloudy with a high near 62 degrees.

This year, they're serving up a 'Tarantula Burger.' And no, just because it's in quotation marks doesn't mean it's figurative. The challenge is part of Bull City Burger and Brewery's Exotic Meat Month , which the restaurant celebrates every April.

"We do get pretty powerful systems coming throughout the Midwest, and on the cold side we do get snow". The snow will move out Saturday night leaving Sunday quieter but cool with highs in the mid 30s.

High wind warnings remain in effect until midnight Friday with gusts up to 65 miles per hour expected.

While most New Yorkers enjoy the first hints of spring this weekend, other parts of the country will be weathering an insane storm that will bring blizzards, fires, winds and everything in between.

Damage to power lines may occur.
