May to chair emergency cabinet meeting on Syria `chemical attack´

Mr Macron said he has been talking regularly this week with United States president Donald Trump about the most effective response and that any French action would target Syria's chemical weapons abilities.

Trump, also took to Twitter Thursday morning to push back against a New York Times report indicating he floated the idea of shutting down special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe in December.

Earlier today, Trump tweeted: "Never said when an attack on Syria would take place".

"We're looking very, very seriously, very closely, at that whole situation", the President said during a meeting with farm state lawmakers. "Where is our 'Thank you America?" Russian soldiers are headed to Douma, the town where the attack reportedly occurred, to preserve evidence and protect the people still living there. The president himself sent a series of tweets on the topic, with one Wednesday message suggesting that he was likely to pursue military action.

Meanwhile, Turkey warned Wednesday that a possible military confrontation between the U.S. and Russian Federation in Syria would set the whole Middle East region on fire.

She added that she was surprised Mr Trump tweeted that Russian Federation should "get ready" because missiles "will be coming, new and new and "smart".

Shortly after his tweeted warning to Russia, Mr. Trump took a more conciliatory tone in lamenting that the U.S. -Russia relationship "is worse now than it has ever been".

Alfie Evans: Police at Alder Hey Hospital protest
On Thursday night, police were called after hundreds of protesters gathered outside Alder Hey Children's Hospital. But yesterday, appeal court officials confirmed to the Guardian that another hearing had been listed for Monday.

With increasing concerns about a US-Russia proxy war in Syria, Macron insisted that "France will not allow an escalation or something that could damage the stability" of the region.

Global observers with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons have yet to reach the Damascus suburb of Douma, where the attack took place.

Britain will work with its "closest allies", the United States and France, to ensure Assad is held to account as "all indications" suggest he ordered the attack, she said.

Syrian regime forces struck targets in Eastern Ghouta's Douma district on Saturday midnight using a poisonous gas which left at least 78 civilians dead, according to the White Helmets, a local civil defense agency.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has ordered submarines to move within missile range of Syria in readiness for strikes against the military that could begin as early as Thursday, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reports.

US forces killed scores of Russian mercenaries in Syria last week in what may be the deadliest clash between citizens of the former foes since the Cold War, according to one USA official and three Russians familiar with the matter. "No final decision has been made", Sanders said.

French President Emmanuel Macron, meanwhile, said France had proof the Syrian government carried out the attack near Damascus, which aid groups have said killed dozens of people, and will decide whether to strike back when all the necessary information has been gathered. "Now we have to make some.decisions, so they'll be made fairly soon".
