Nazem Kadri suspended three games for boarding Tommy Wingels

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri has been suspended three games for a unsafe hit to the head of the Boston Bruins' Tommy Wingels, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced on Friday.

The forward was issued a five-minute charging major and a game misconduct in the third period on Thursday after he delivered a hit on Tommy Wingels. Regardless of whether or not Wingels is healthy enough to play on Saturday, the unsafe, predatory nature of the hit, Kadri's past history and the sheer stupidity of his actions all made it a no-brainer for the National Hockey League to deliver a stiff, unflinching punishment as they did.

This is Kadri's fourth career suspension. The 30-year-old scored nine goals and posted 17 points in 75 games this season. Cassidy mentioned that Wingels will be evaluated Friday and is questionable for Game 2.

Blizzard warning for northwest Iowa, maybe an inch here
Those to the south can expect severe thunderstorms in the forecast as well as "the potential for a few tornadoes". Blizzard warnings were issued from northeast Colorado through central Dakota as the storm geared up Friday.

"I certainly wasn't trying to hit him while he was down like that. But he ended up falling and reaching for the puck, and I'm not sure what happened after that". I was already committed to the hit. Obviously, if he's still standing up there's nothing wrong with that.

It did not even take the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs a game before tempers started to flare.

Boston won the opening game 5-1.
