Prince Philip is discharged from hospital after hip surgery

Britain's Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, today left hospital after a hip replacement surgery.

Prince Philip is out of the hospital Friday and on the mend following his hip replacement surgery on April 4.

The duke waved from the passenger seat of a Land Rover Discovery as he was driven past the front entrance of the hospital, having left through another exit.

'His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip which will take place tomorrow, ' read a statement from Buckingham Palace.

The head of state's comment suggests that although she has not visited her husband - who was spending his 10th day in hospital and is known to prefer no fuss - they have been in contact.

Medical experts say hip replacement patients are usually back to their normal lifestyle, free from pain, after a few weeks.

The statement continued: 'His Royal Highness would like to convey his appreciation for the messages of good wishes he has received'.

Last June, Philip was admitted to the hospital as a "precautionary measure" for treatment of an infection from a pre-existing condition, causing him to miss the annual Queen's Speech at the State Opening of Parliament.

Philip complained about joint trouble for about a month before the operation and will now face weeks of aftercare as he learns to walk again.

On May 19, they will celebrate the wedding of their grandson Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at St. George's Chapel in Windsor.
