United Nations voices outrage over rape, murder of young girl in IHK

A bandh has been called in Jammu by lawyers as a protest against the filing of charge-sheets against the accused who had allegedly raped, mutilated and murdered an eight-year old girl in Kathua town of Jammu and Kashmir, media reports said.

Madhav, who attened the legislative party meeting of the state BJP MLAs and MLC, said state party president Sat Sharma will send the resignations to the chief minister. "Madhav would chair the party meeting in Jammu tomorrow", sources said. The incident was shameful and a murder of humanity but we must ensure that the real culprits are booked and if such incidents continue to take place, no girl will feel safe.

This particular incident of Asifa Bano, an 8 year old girl from Bakherwal community, who was brutally raped for several days at a temple before she was murdered at Rassana village in Kathua district, has created ripples across all quarters.

He said the resignation letters were now being forwarded to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Industries Minister Chandra Prakash Ganga and Forest Minister Lal Singh had addressed a rally in support of the accused by a group called the Hindu Ekta Manch in March.

Although the two ministers said their statements were twisted and quoted out of context, there has been overwhelming public outcry against them.

JK CM to take decision on resignation of BJP minister: Ram Madhav
He said that eight people have been arrested related to this case, including few policemen for allegedly tampering with evidence. But both these ministers cleared that it was not their intention to interfere in the Crime Branch investigation.

When asked why he had not visited Asfa's home on the same day he visited khutua, he replied that the situation did not allow us to visit her home.

"State party president has received the resignation of both the ministers".

The body of the girl was found in Rasana forest on January 17, a week after she went missing while grazing horses in the forest area. Explaining his stance further, Lal said, "I had gone there, (ministers) Bali (Bhagat) and (Abdul Gani) Kohli had gone to Nowshera and Sunderbani to listen to people".

The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police filed two separate chargesheets against the eight accused persons including a juvenile held in the case.

"To safeguard the interest of Jammu, I will not hesitate to fight the government or meet the prime minister personally and reiterate the demand for a CBI probe into the Kathua rape-and-murder case which is the demand of lakhs of people", Ganga said.

"Party has already condemned this act, 2 individuals (BJP J&K ministers) were mislead & misguided by people". The victim belonged to a nomadic Muslim tribe Bakarwal in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
