Come-from-behind win keeps UCHS softball team ideal in conference play

Girls Lacrosse-After opening their season with a 10-point win, the Lady Knights suffered their first loss of the season after falling by two, 8-6, in their first divisional game of the season at Simsbury (2-0).

"This is our fifth game this week". "To go five straight days, they still played the hardest. The defense has been a lot better than I expected early in the season". "When they started to relax, attack strikes, I think we had a lot more scoring opportunities".

The Stonehill College softball team tied up the series against Northeast-10 Conference divisional foe Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, April 14 at Bisaccia Softball Complex with a battle in a 1-0 loss and then a come-from-behind 6-4 victory in the second game. Zac Wilsonbroke another career record in the contest as his two stolen bases gave him 47 to surpass Cam Cooper. Sarti then doubled home a run and scored on an error. Katie Ball crossed the plate on an error for the first run and Rebekah DeBlanc drove in the second with an RBI single into right field. Ragan Narretto led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a groundout. She kept the Tigers off balance by working the ball to both sides of the plate. "She was hitting her spots and she came out today in a relief position, she came out, she hit her spots, she got a lot of results that she was looking for with the ground balls".

Drake and the Cougars were buoyed by the four-run third inning to erase a 1-0 deficit.

The Panthers added to their tally in the bottom of the third, leading off the inning with a home run over center field.

Scoring in the fifth frame consisted of a Rigby RBI double, two RBIs from Terranova, and a two-run homer from Gabbert.

Superior took the lead for good with five runs in the top of the second inning.

After another 1-2-3 inning by Resurreccion and the Putnam County defense, the Lady Panthers' offense put the game away for good in the bottom of the sixth. "Once you get into the postseason, anyone can beat anyone, so our approach is to just go out there with maximum effort and see what happens". "If the wind wasn't blowing, maybe it's a different game".

Game One Senior Maggie Clapp (3-for-5, run scored, three RBI) and Walsh (3-for-5, run scored, RBI) each had three hits in the game one victory.

The Lady Warriors will wait until 4:30 p.m. today to take on the victor of the Fairview and Good Hope matchup at 3.

UMBC senior third baseman Carly Lesko extended the lead to 6-2 with a two-run home run over the right field wall in the bottom of the sixth. "She's pitching great, and I'm really proud of her". She went 6 2/3 innings, surrendering 7 runs on 7 hits and striking out 2 batters.

"Kelsey's a competitor", Davis said. So let her go out there and finish it. "She was struggling a little bit, but it was a true show of character because she pushed through and threw a complete game".
