Nina Simone into Rock Hall of Fame

Nina Simone into Rock Hall of Fame

During the ceremony, Bon Jovi was introduced on stage during longtime fan and friend Howard Stern who shared tons of amusing stories during his speech.

Bon Jovi, which has sold more than 120 million albums and launched multiple No. 1 hits, was first nominated in 2011. He even sang some of "Wanted Dead or Alive", getting the audience to join in. "It took a lot of people to get us here tonight".

English rockers Dire Straits were inducted without its leader Mark Knopfler, or his brother David Knopfler.

Featuring food from notable city chefs, it was a kind of calm before the ceremony storm (both literally and figuratively given thunderstorm predictions for Saturday) - albeit a loud kind of calm thanks to music from Philadelphia's Low Cut Connie, which covered favorites by Rock Hall inductees and also dedicated a version of Black Sabbath's "Changes" to the late Charles Bradley, who had covered the song.

She will be inducted by Brittany Howard, of blues rock band Alabama Shakes. Howard was backed by an equally appealing Questlove of The Roots on the drums.

"It's been long overdue".

Overlooked but never unappreciated, Sister Rosetta Tharpe is finally a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer.

Raptors' Fred VanVleet (shoulder) ruled out for Game 1 against the Wizards
But the Raptors' double-digit lead was shortlived and they led 28-23 after one. "Playoff games are tough", Casey said. A "culture reset" carried the Toronto Raptors to the top of the Eastern Conference for the first time this season.

Tharpe will be inducted with the Award for Early Influence, while the five other acts will be inducted as performers.

Tharpe died in 1973 at the age of 58, but her music lives on and is being appreciated by a new generation just learning of her legacy.

Saturday morning, awaiting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions ceremony, Joe Milliken reflected on the time when Ben Orr and Ric Ocasek lived in Ann Arbor in the late 1960s.

But he said the Cars provided him entertainment while growing up in a small Utah town in a Mormon household. [My wife] said, 'No, you're going to go Cleveland and we're going to have fun.'.

Ocasek also earned applause when he namedropped Cleveland: "I lived in Cleveland for a while".

R&B star Mary J. Blige will welcome Simone into the Rock Hall, while contemporary R&B singer Andra Day will perform in Nina's honor. The ceremony will air May 5 on HBO.
